Yoga
– height increase success stories
|
|
By lengthening and opening the patterns in the
fascia. As a result, the thickened rope like tissues become soft, re-hydrated
and more pliable, allowing better range of motion, movement and flexibility.
This systematic approach of relating gravity through the fascial layers
aligns the body and improves posture. The body lengthens allowing muscles the
space to work and joints the freedom to function. As a result of the process
people often become taller and slimmer. Some actually gain anywhere from
1/4 inch to over one inch in height. Feelings of discomfort or
pain are often alleviated. Feelings of lightness and fluidity, better
balance, increased breathing capacity, and increased energy are the result.

Yoga has not only increased my flexibility and
leg strength but has increased my height. I've grown one inch in the short
amount of time that I've been practicing. I've learned to breathe
in a relaxing way & have been able to incorporate it and yoga in general
into my workout routine. Thanks Yoga For Living!

I went through a period where my meditation
practice did not seem to be progressing. In 2001, after reading an article
that referred to yoga as a moving meditation, I took a class. I had never
taken yoga before, but I hoped it would kick start my meditation practice.
The results were immediate and I began to feel more serene within the first
few days. As I continued to practice, I noticed additional changes. My posture improved so much that I ‘grew’ by half an
inch. My movements became more graceful and I felt infused with a
vitality that I had not experienced since childhood. Also, my balance,
strength, endurance and flexibility increased dramatically.

“I actually grew an inch
last year through doing yoga. And I’m still growing,”
says the coach of the Lady Corsairs volleyball team and 1990 World Champion
of the Women’s Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. But growing an extra inch or
two is only a small part of the busy agenda Elaine keeps as a coach, sports
personality and full-time PE instructor at SMC. Indeed her schedule gives a
whole new meaning to the concept of “commuting.”

No, Elizabeth. It's not a feeling.
I measured 1/2" taller. As I have said in
the past, the feeling is that I have spent a great deal of time not only extending
my spine, but building the muscles to support the extension. That's
not a feeling, it is height gain that was not being
experienced in my body. So I'm
taller and have broken 5'3".

NJ: On a physical level I feel great and
thoroughly enjoy that sense of power and well being that I did when I was
back in high school and in excellent physical shape. I actually grew 3/4 of
an inch while I was in training and I attribute that to improving
my posture and opening my spine after so many years of lack of use. However,
I also know I am on a path that has me truly in alignment with my spiritual
purpose.

There are classes every hour on the hour,
aerobics and stretch, weights and water sports, and yoga, always yoga,
classes in the morning and restorative sessions in the afternoon, working the
body and resting the mind, achieving the wordless meditation in motion when
the monkey mind is stilled and the endless chatter ends or at least is
suspended as the limbs move in ways you forgot they could go, going beyond,
everything seeming possible, the ability to touch the floor that was out of
reach on the first day becoming suddenly achievable at week's end; the body a
metaphor for spirit's miracles. In one week of yoga there I actually grew
— taller. I
gained a half inch in height at a time of life (my sixties) in which people
usually shrink, bending down and lowering, but instead, at Rancho,
I actually did. Talk about "spiritual growth."

When I finish my session I don't feel
exhausted or sweaty, but revived and refreshed. I walk into the session
measuring 58 and I swear I leave an inch taller. I remember using
similar words when writing my first article, although they were only words at
the time. Now several months later, I can understand all the praise Pilates
has received from people tired of the more traditional forms of exercise. Pilates
may not be for everyone, but for those anxious for a change of routine, it's
most decidedly worth a try.

"I no longer have problems with my feet,
and I've gained about half an inch in height because, before yoga, I had
no back or abdomen strength, which is required for good posture." It's not just about pumping up your
muscles and getting an adrenaline high, Vander Hoop says.

I would definitely have to say pilates. I've been a certified instructor for 3 years and
have been doing it about 3 1/2. I started taking it because of my back and
started to notice a difference in less then a month. Not to
forget I gained an inch in height, my strength had increased and I
get sick less often. I know it's the hip thing right now but it does have a
broad history and a lot of medical benefits. if
you're not sure on what videos or books to buy I can gladly recommend a few. not all of them are the same and not all of them are good.

She had this to say about her experience:
Since I started taking Bikram Yoga I have never felt so good. I am 37 years
old and always been active but I never felt I had real strength and balance.
One last thing - I went to the doctor last week and just out of curiosity I
had her measure my height and I found out I have grown an inch!! My
spine has literally stretched. I could go on for pages but I will just end as
I started out by saying I have NEVER felt this good!

Name: Sharon Holdstock. No middle name as only
boys in my family got them.
DOB: 23/01/69.
(23rd January 1969)
Star sign: Aquarius. And a very typical one, too.
Height: 5' 4". No, actually, it's 5' 5" now -- I grew
an inch in recent years due to yoga.

You might get the extra couple of centimeters
without any effort - I didn't stop getting taller till mid 20's. Stretching out tension is good advice.
I gain
about 1/2 inch doing yoga between trips which I lose again every time I do
real kayaking.

I tried walking longer distances but my curve
kept increasing and I could not stop it and my breathing became worse and
worse. I was chasing this thing and couldn't fix it! Nothing will stop it but
surgery to reduce the curve and make more breathing room for the lungs. I
also gained an inch in height. I also did Pilates-similar to Yoga.
It did not help any longer. I actually became panicky with the breathing
problems.

“The results can be pretty
dramatic,” Shank explains. “We have, for instance, a senior
fitness director who’s in her 60s who, because of improvements in her
posture and lean muscle mass, has grown an inch since she began
taking mat classes.” He notes that, while Pilates
appeals to individuals of both sexes and every age, 80% of AVAC’s
students are women, and 60% are over the age of 40. “It’s also
great for people undergoing rehab,” he points out.

I have a tallish yoga friend who has "grown" from yoga and
she also has bone loss due to early osteoporosis so she "should" be
shrinking. So the muscles supporting her spine have strengthened and
lengthened which will help prevent breakage and further
deterioration. Yes yoga!

But after I told my parents I started going to
have dinner with them 2 times a week & I've been eating more now. Not
what I was before mind you but more than I was. I've lost weight, everyone
notices that. However I've been going to the gym a lot now & I'm taking
yoga classes too now. That's all we can sometimes do. I think
I grew an inch.

Hi Virgo,
I totally agree with you. I have been doing yoga for about a year now and
from the first time I went to my first class, I came home feeling like I had
finally found something that I truly enjoy. It is such a challenge too.
Trying to perfect the different asana. It has such a calming effect on me and
my body. I can't say that it has helped my hot flashes .
I have not noticed that, but it has definitely helped with my depression and
relaxes the mind when I am having a bad day worrying. I would recommend it to
anyone. One amazing thing I just found out you might be interested
in..........I actually grew an inch in height. I had lost
an inch over the years and for some reason just the other day we decided to
check my height and I had put the inch back on. I had read where
this could happen. I think the yoga has helped my posture and that is what
did it. Gail

I continue yoga because it works. Having
regained my range of motion—I found many other benefits. Balance and
strength were improved. My feet, which had been flat for decades developed
normal arches. With better hip and spinal alignment, I
“grew” an inch. At my age, that was quite an
accomplishment!

Okay, here is the scoop. I am 40 years old. I
stopped growing a long time ago. I have for all of my adult life been 6 foot
and 1/2 inch. I had a physical yesterday, and my doctor found that I was
an inch taller. I checked the measurement at home and I
concur. In the last six months I have
lost nearly 50 pounds with Beachbody. Could the weight loss with
the stretching and strengthening cause my spine to lengthen?
Is this possible? I really doubt that I actually grew.
